Jack O’Lanterns at the Bojnice Castle ( 11/1/2019 - 11/2/2019)

The Slovak National Museum - Museum Bojnice is offering a non-traditional castle tour at night accompanied by autumn-themed decorations and glowing pumpkins. Carved, menacing pumpkins date back to the time of our ancestors. They called them jack o’lanterns and carved them every autumn. Through this tradition, they carried on the Celtic mythological belief that the souls of the departed come back to Earth on the last day of October, trying to gain control of all living things. Light – even in the form of coals glowing inside a carved pumpkin resembling a scary face – would serve as a protection against these returning souls.
