St. John's 110th Anniversary Celebrates Slovak Heritage

St. John Lutheran Church, Cudahy, founded in 1906 by Slovak Immigrants, will start a year-long observance of its 11oth Anniversary with English / Slovak Worship Services on April 2 & 3, and a Slovak-menu dinner on April 3. At the beginning of the 20th Century, many European immigrants came to the United States seeking political and religious freedoms, and improved economic futures. The Patrick Cudahy Slaughter House and Meat Packing Company moved to what would become Cudahy in the 1890's, and immigrants from Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland and Ireland were welcomed and employed.
