Ukraine, Baltics Vent Spleen Over Russian-German Pipeline Plan

A proposed second Nord Stream gas pipeline under the Baltic Sea could deprive Ukraine of $2 billion annually, and it runs counter to the EU's goal of reducing its energy reliance on Russia, a U.S. official has said. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Diplomacy Robin Dunnigan told a conference of policymakers in Bratislava that since Russia's annexation of Crimea the EU has been helping Ukraine by bolstering energy ties with Kyiv.
